How to Care for the Plant
Water
Water regularly to get your tree well-established, at least during its first year in your yard. After that, water during dry spells when we've had no rainfall.
Pruning
If you place the parkinsonia correctly, you won't have to do any trimming. If it grows too close to drives or walks, you will have to prune back branches to keep anyone or anything from comimg in contact with its thorns
Fertilizer
Fertilize 3 times a year - spring, summer and fall - with a good quality granular fertilizer.
Sunlight
It cannot grow in the shade.
Soil
Suitable for: light (sandy) and medium (loamy) soils, prefers well-drained soil and can grow in nutritionally poor soil. Suitable pH: neutral and basic (alkaline) soils and can grow in very alkaline and saline soils.
Temperature
It grows best in areas where annual daytime temperatures are within the range 24 - 32°c, but can tolerate 16 - 36°c. When dormant, the plant can survive temperatures down to about -4°c, but young growth can be severely damaged at -1°c

The leaves are reported to contain hydrocyanic acid and to be toxic
