Shiso Mint Care

Water your mint plants often enough that their soil is always moist. for most people, watering 3 to 4 times a week may be sufficient for perpetually moist soil. however, your particular soil condition and local climate may require you to water less or more.

Dead or dying sections of the plant can encourage pest infestation or disease. Removing these not only makes your houseplant look better, but reduces the risk of further problems down the line.

Liquid fertilizers are applied more frequently, bi-weekly or monthly, for example. Granular products are used less frequently, perhaps once every month or two. Slow-release houseplant fertilizers break down slowly and release their nutrients in small amounts, over a longer period of time. A single application of most of these products lasts for three to four months.

This plant needs a lot of sunlight, but it has to be protected from the strongest rays of the sun.

Most often planting instructions will suggest planting in loam soil. Loam soil should be rich in minerals and nutrients for the plants and loose enough that roots and spread out and grow strong.

Shiso grows best in warm to hot climates in partial shade; it does not tolerate cold; it is not frost hardy.

Whether it be plastic or clay, make sure the pot you select has drainage holes in the bottom to prevent over-watering.

These mint plants are also quite toxic to cattle and other livestock, so it’s no wonder why shiso is considered more of a noxious, undesirable weed in some area of the world
