Pyrrosia hastata is a slowly creeping rhizome fern. It has three to five lobed velvety sage green leaves with long stipes. The underside of the leaves are grey to copper brown in color. The stipes and midribs are green and easily distinguishable from the similar dark stipes on the P. polydactyla. This is more noticeable at the point of transition from stipe to rachis on P. polydactyla. P. hastata clings to rocks and trees in its native habitat. It does well in pots as well in the garden with good drainage. In warm climates it does well in rock gardens. Winter protection is recommended for those in zone 8.
