How to Care for the Plant
Water
You should provide Adiantum hispidulum with regular and abundant watering. Drying out of the soil can cause the wilting and falling of leaves. It's best to lower your greenie in the container into standing water at room temperature and wait until the soil is soaked with moisture. Let the excess liquid drain. Reduce the amount of watering in winter.Adiantum hispidulum has a powerful root system, so the best container for it is a wide and spacious pot. We recommend using a vessel made of wood or ceramics without varnish coating. Remember to ensure your pot has drainage holes.
Pruning
Adiantum hispidulum does not need special pruning. However, you can remove dried, and dead leaves to help the plant cope with diseases and look more decorative.
Fertilizer
You should only feed Adiantum hispidulum in summer. Use liquid mineral fertilizers. You can add chalk to the solution with top dressing. Rough Maidenhair also enjoys some carbonates in the fertilizing mix!
Sunlight
This leafy beauty prefers partial shade. It doesn't tolerate direct sunlight and may even die from sunburn. We recommend placing your fern next to a north-facing window.
Soil
The soil for Adiantum hispidulum should be loose, acidic, and rich in humus. You can transplant your fern at the end of March in a substrate made of humus, peat, sand, or leafy soil. Do not forget about the drainage layer! You can make the layer from expanded clay and coarse-grained sand. It should be no less than 2 inches (5 cm) thick.
Propagation
Rough Maidenhair fern reproduces both by dividing the rhizome and by spores. Place the spores taken from the tips of the leaves on top of the moist substrate. It's best to keep them in a mini-greenhouse with constant mild temperature levels.
