How to Care for the Plant
Water
Water lightly at 4-5 day interval during seedling and growing stage. Restrict the irrigation one week before flowering. The plants should be irrigated during hot weather and care should be taken to keep the root zone sufficiently moist.
Pruning
Ivy gourd overgrows and can turn invasive if left unchecked. So, it’s important that you prune off the stems that are growing out of limit. Make sure that the pruning shear is sharp and well-oiled. After pruning dispose of the fallen stems, or they might root.Once the plant has stopped producing after the fruiting season, you can prune it off, leaving only 2-3 feet of thick bottom stem left. The fresh growth will start from it again.
Fertilizer
Liberal application of farmyard manure along with 70 g nitrogen and 25 g each of phosphorus and potash per pot would prove to be rewarding. Fertilizer application should be followed by loosening up the soil. Make sure that watering is done immediately after fertilizer application. If the growth of the plant is weak, vegetable mixture (7:10:5) can be applied at frequent intervals.

The plant needs to be grown in full sun.
