Dracaena Jade Jewel Plants (Dracaena fragrans 'Jade Jewel') are striking and easy-to-grow house plants. Though it is a tropical plant, dracaena plants adapt well to your home with little maintenance which makes it perfect for beginners. Dracaena starts as a tuft of leaves that grows to form a long stem with a cluster of leaves cascading from the top. Place it in a bright spot in your home with indirect light and watch it thrive!
Proper watering is the trick to keeping this plants’ full appearance. In low light, water sparingly, allowing the top several inches of soil to dry down.
A brightly lit spot without direct sunshine is suggested. A small amount of morning or evening sun is not a problem.
For optimum plant health, fertilize with an all-purpose houseplant food April through October, following label directions. For all other months, fertilize half as often.
A fast draining, high quality potting soil is best. You can do a 50/50 mix of natural potting soil / cactus blend, or mix generous amounts of perlite and vermiculite in to your potting soil.
Cut off dead fronds when they have folded down to the trunk, making it easier to remove the base of the frond and leave a bare trunk.
This plant likes average room temperatures between 65-80 degrees. They do not do well in temperatures below 55 degrees. Cold winter drafts and blowing heaters can damage the leaves.
Dracaena Jade Jewel leaves are toxic to pets and humans. Typically, ingestion will cause mouth and stomach irritation with possible vomiting.
