What is the plant

Jalapeno Chili Plant is traditionally grown in Mexico. These medium-sized peppers are widely used in recipes because of their spicy taste.

Jalapeno is a perennial plant. Its height can reach up to 25 inches (60cm). However, lower bushes bear fruit more actively. During the flowering period, the plant produces 25-35 flowers, each of which becomes a fruit. The Chili plant produces medium-sized, elongated peppers with firm flesh from May to June.

How to Care for the Plant

Water
This pepper requires regular irrigation. We recommend watering the plant often, little by little. Please don't leave the soil dry for extended periods because it might result in fallen flowers. The optimal watering routine is 2-3 times a week.
Pruning
The plant does not require mandatory pruning. However, you can remove yellowed leaves and bare branches. Be sure to use special gloves. Direct contact with the plant may cause skin irritation and burns!
Fertilizer
Jalapeno needs to be fertilized 3-4 times per season. You can use humus mixed with water at a concentration of 1:10. You can also add a glass of ash to one bucket of water and pour it into the soil around the plant. Be careful not to get this mixture on the leaves because it can result in burns!

Sunlight
Protect your green pet from harsh light when it's still germinating. When your pepper matures, provide it with full sun. It needs about 8 hours of sunlight to produce flowers and fruit! The best location for your warmth-loving plant would be next to a south-facing window.
Soil
The soil suited for vegetable or flower crops will do. You can prepare the growing medium by сombining sand with two parts peat, garden soil, and humus. You can also add a glass of ash to the mixture.
Propagation
From January to March, you can start propagating your Chili using seeds. Select seeds from the most beautiful fruits. Dry them in the open air for 2-3 hours and put them in the ground. Not that you shouldn't plant them too deeply because they will have trouble sprouting.

Temperature
The optimal temperature for growing Jalapeno is 80-92°F (26-33°C). If your home is not warm enough, you may set up a small greenhouse for the peppers. Remember, the plant does not tolerate significant temperature changes!
Container
You can plant your Chili outdoors if your area does not experience striking temperature changes. Otherwise, it is better to grow peppers at home in a pot. Since this plant spreads outward faster than it grows taller, you should choose a wide shallow container.
