Cochliasanthus caracalla growing vine herbaceous of the genus Cochliasanthus also known as Snail vine, Cochliasanthus caracalla perennial evergreen or annual plant, used as ornamental plant and as hedge plant, can grow in mediterranean, desert, subtropical, temperate, tropic climate and growing in hardiness zone 10b+ as perennial and 6-10a as annual.
Water snail vines one to two times weekly when the soil begins to dry out to a 2-inch depth. Supply 1 inch of water at each irrigation so the moisture can soak deeply into the soil. Continue to water through winter when the vine remains evergreen.
Fertilize the vine in spring after the plant is actively growing. Apply 1/4 cup of all-purpose fertilizer per vine. Sprinkle the fertilizer around the base of the vine, approximately 6 inches out from the base of the plant. Water thoroughly after feeding.
Spread mulch over the soil to help conserve the moisture and minimize irrigation. A 2-inch layer of bark chips or another organic mulch provides an attractive choice.
Prune snail vines in spring just as new growth begins to show. Cut back any dead or damaged vines or stems to the nearest healthy wood. Remove up half the vines height to maintain it at the desired size. Make pruning cuts within 1/2 inch of a bud to encourage further branching and a fuller vine.
