Cotyledon undulata and ladysmithiensis are popular succulents that can beautify the room all year round and the garden in summer. Easy to clean and undemanding, they are ideal for beginners and hobby gardeners with little time - but of course the culture should be one or the other point of attention.
As with all succulents, the same applies to cotyledon ladysmithiensis and cotyledon undulata: less is more. Through their thick-bodied leaves, the plants have rich storage and easily come through dry phases. Of course, they have to be watered every now and then. From February to September or October, the cotyledon may be poured or dipped. After each watering, however, it must be ensured that no waterlogging forms, so that the excess liquid can run off well. In addition, the substrate should be well dried on the surface before it is used again to the watering can.
The thick-bodied plants feel most comfortable in the direct sun. Optimal is therefore a windowsill south. In summer, however, the plants may also have a sheltered and bright outdoor location where they are not directly exposed to rain.
Cotyledon undulata, also known as ladysmithiensis, can be well-fed without additional nutrient supply if they are put into fresh substrate once a year or every two years.
Cotyledon ladysmithiensis and undulata require a well-drained and loose substrate that is not prone to condensation or waterlogging. The simplest choice is therefore cactus clay. Also suitable are sandy or gritty mixtures based on potting soil. Here, a part of earth is mixed with a piece of sand or gravel. To improve this combination coconut fiber can additionally be added.
