Asplenium trichomanes, commonly known as the maidenhair spleenwort, is a small, evergreen fern with a huge native distribution, including Europe, Asia, North America, Central and South America. A number of sub-species exist, each suited to growing in varying growing conditions, often in well-drained, rocky habitats. In the garden, Asplenium trichomanes is fantastic for growing in rockeries, in brick and stone walls or among stepping stones in shady spots.

How to Care for the Plant

Water

Water especially the first weeks, every other day. then the first summer in case of drought water them twice a week. in pots, water weekly when you notice that the substrate is dry and shrinks. if it still seems very wet on contact, wait a little bit more between the watering.

Pruning

Clip or pinch off dead leaves and stems. If stems have rotted at the root, pull them out, and make sure to let the soil dry out before the plant's next watering.

Fertilizer

When it comes to fertilizers, you want to avoid over-fertilizing (just like an overdose of vitamins isn't great for us, either). Less is more, so it’s important to follow what the package says for application amounts.

Sunlight

Indoors, keep your plant in an area having plenty of bright filtered light.

Soil

Use a well-draining indoor potting mix with perlite to help with drainage.

Container

Pot should provide ample drainage and room for growth.
