What is the plant

Is it summer if you haven't grown a melon in your garden yet? Along with Watermelons and Honeydew, Cantaloupe Melons are popular summer fruits worldwide.

The Cantaloupe Melon (or Muskmelon) is recognizable by its netted, web-like pattern on a green rind. The inside of the fruit is orange and very sweet in flavor, making it a favorite for many sweet-toothed people.

Cantaloupes originated from the Middle East but have been widely spread throughout history and can now be found everywhere. As of today, there are two varieties of Cantaloupes: the North American variety and the European variety. Although the fruits appear similar and have similar names, they have a different flavor. The European Cantaloupe is said to be sweeter.

We do not recommend growing them in small containers. A large 5-gallon (19-liter) pot might be sufficient for dwarf varieties of the fruit. However, regular-sized melons can grow up to 11 lbs (5 kg), which is simply too large for container growing.
