How to Care for the Plant
Water
Ferns like evenly moist soil and regular waterings. Most indoor ferns are tropical, so lukewarm water is best. You can also regularly mist the fonds.
Fertilizer
In the wild, most ferns live on the forest floor where there is shade and plenty of decaying organic matter. In the spring and summer use a liquid fertilizer (following the label's directions) every couple of weeks. Using a fertilizer in the winter months, when the plant is not actively growing, is unnecessary. Excessive fertilization in the winter can actually cause brown, wilted fronds.
Sunlight
Avoid direct sunlight. Ferns like bright, diffused light. They prefer a north-facing windowsill that has indirect light. An east facing window is also good throughout most of the year, but may become too bright in the spring and summer months. With a east-facing situation, it a good idea to move your ferns back a few feet from the window in the summer or install a sheer curtain to help block the hot afternoon rays.
Soil
Ferns like a good quality, well-drained potting soil.
Temperature
Outside, this fern is hardy down to -6.7°C (20°F) to -3.9°C (25°F). Most ferns like an average room temperature of 65 to 75°F during the day, up to 10 degrees cooler at night. If temperatures exceed 75°F, you may need to water more frequently.
Container
Choose any type of container with enough drainage holes.
