Black mulberry Care
Morus nigra

Morus nigra is a deciduous tree growing to 12 m (39 ft) tall by 15 m (49 ft) broad. The edible fruit is dark purple, almost black, when ripe, 2–3 centimetres (0.8–1.2 in) long, a compound cluster of several small drupes; it is richly flavoured, similar to the red mulberry (Morus rubra) but unlike the more insipid fruit of the white mulberry (Morus alba). Black mulberry has long been cultivated for its edible fruit and is planted and often naturalised west across much of Europe, including Ukraine, and east into China.

How to Care for the Plant
Water
Mulberry trees need deep roots for proper establishment and healthy moisture uptake. The best watering technique requires you to water the tree out to its drip line.
Pruning
To prune a plant to encourage bushy new growth, snip off the dominant buds on select stems, staggering the cuts to encourage varied growth.
Fertilizer
Use a fertilizer formulated specifically for your plant. Avoid over-fertilizing and follow the instruction on the label.
Sunlight
Indoors, keep your plant in an area having plenty of bright filtered light.
Soil
Use a well-draining indoor potting mix with perlite to help with drainage.
Temperature
Mulberry trees are cold hardy. The black mulberry is the least cold-hardy compared to other varieties, although again cold tolerance seems to depend on the clone. In general it is limited to areas with 0° to 10°F average minimum or warmer.
Container
Here’s a handy guideline: increase pot size by 2.5-5 cm (1 to 2 inches) in diameter for plants that are growing in pots 25.4 cm (10 inches) in diameter or less. For larger plants, those growing in pots greater than 10 inches in diameter, increase the pot size by 5 or 7.62 cm (2 or 3 inches) in diameter.
