Never bough a tomato plant because of fear that they died in winter. But do they?

I could be wrong. But I was always told it’s recommended to remove them at the end of the growing season.👍
They do die in the winter. They are considered an annual plant. But the tomatoes grown in your backyard taste so much better than what you buy in the store!
I recently read that they don’t die. They hibernate but I am not sure what it means.
So heres a tip. They do die every winter, but let a few tomatoes stay on the plant when it dies, so that when it dies and rots, new tomatoes could automatically grow up next year
