How to Care for the Plant
Water
Eucalyptus plants are drought tolerant, but containers dry out more quickly than the garden. Make sure the potting soil is thoroughly damp by watering until water begins to seep from the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot. Let the potted eucalyptus dry out slightly between waterings. Overall, in hot climates, it is best to water new trees at least once per week and established trees every 7 to 21 days. The more frequent time recommendation is for trees in sandy soil.
Pruning
Spring is the time to prune eucalyptus to control the size of potted trees, to maintain the desired shape and to remove any dead or broken branches. Repotting every two to three years in spring with new potting soil keeps the root environment healthy.
Fertilizer
Eucalyptus plants don't require a lot of extra fertilizer when growing in the garden, but potting soil and containers provide less nutrients than garden soil. A single application of 10-30-10 or 10-10-10 fertilizer in spring gives potted eucalyptus all the nutrients they need.
Sunlight
Sun/Part Shade.
Soil
An ideal soil would be made up of 45% minerals (sand, clay, silt), 5 % organic (plant and animal) material, 25% air and 25% water. The mineral portion would be loam (20 – 30% clay, 30 – 50% silt and 30 – 50% sand).
Temperature
Average room temperatures 65-75°f/18-24°c.
