How to Care for the Plant
Water
This water-starwort was once found in a slowly flowing stream near Brunswick in Lower Saxonia, and we have noticed that it grows well in aquariums. It is especially interesting for well-lit cold water and biotope aquariums, but apparently it is also suitable for moderately warm tropical aquariums.
Pruning
Cut back in spring to keep in check as it is a vigorous grower.
Sunlight
Full sun, partial shade.
Soil
Grow in well-drained, moderately fertile soil in a sheltered, sunny site. Protect in winter in cold areas.
Temperature
These plants prefer a temperature range of 55-65°F at night and 70-80°F during the day. They like well-draining soil that's fairly rich in organic matter. If you're transplanting into containers, place some drainage material such as gravel in the bottom of the pot.
Container
Plastic pots are the most commonly used pots. They are lightweight, relatively inexpensive, long lasting and work well for nearly all begonias. Watering and sizing correctly are the main problems with plastic pots. Unlike the other three pot types which are porous, plastic pots are not and hold water much longer.
