The jostaberry (Ribes × nidigrolaria) is a complex-cross fruit bush in the genus Ribes, involving three original species, the blackcurrant R. nigrum, the North American coastal black gooseberry R. divaricatum, and the European gooseberry R. uva-crispa. 'Josta' berry (Ribes nidigrolaria) takes the looks of a gooseberry, removes the thorns, and makes it sweeter. It combines the vigorous growth and rich flavor of a black currant with disease resistance (including to white pine blister rust and mildew).

How to Care for the Plant
Water
For optimum fruit production Jostaberries need to be kept well watered.
Pruning
Prune in late Winter, by removing broken or drooping branches. Also remove the oldest branches. Most flower buds form on branches that are at least one year old so it is important to not prune very hard as this will reduce potential cropping.
Fertilizer
Feed with general fertiliser each Spring and top dress with well broken down animal manure or compost.
Sunlight
It enjoys full sun or light shade.
Soil
Perform well in most types of soil.
Temperature
Ideal temperatures should be approximately 65-75ºF + (18-24ºC +), closer to 70ºF is best.
Container
Use ceramic pots that are porous which means your plants are less likely to experience root rot from overwatering.
