An outstanding annual for heat-tolerant gardens, this compact plant produces an abundance of large, showy blue flower spikes. A wonderful choice for a container, garden bed, edging, or as a cut flower. Mysty Salvia is a fine choice for the garden, but it is also a good selection for planting in outdoor pots and containers. It is often used as a 'filler' in the 'spiller-thriller-filler' container combination, providing a mass of flowers against which the larger thriller plants stand out.

How to Care for the Plant
Water
Water plants during the summer if rainfall is less than 1 inch per week.
Pruning
Hardy perennial salvias can be cut back hard in spring or autumn. Shrubby types should be lightly pruned in spring – prune these in autumn and new growth will form that can be hit by frost. If you're not sure what salvia you are growing then leave pruning until spring. This will offer them some protection over winter.
Fertilizer
Plants grown in a garden soil don’t need feeding. Salvia really doesn't need feeding during the season.
Sunlight
A south-facing location is ideal.
Soil
All salvias thrive in full sun and well-drained soil.
Temperature
Zone 6 Salvias are generally hardy to -10 degrees F. They are mainly herbaceous perennials with soft foliage that dies back to the ground for winter. Others are subshrubs -- semi-woody perennials. Zone 5 Salvias are generally hardy to -20 degrees F.
Container
A container that is about one-third as tall as the plant (measured from the soil line to the highest leaf) often works best.
