What is the plant

Demokracie', sold under the trade name of BLAZE IMPROVED, is considered by many to be one of the best of the red climbers. This large-flowered climbing rose typically grows 8-12' tall. Features profuse clusters of fragrant, scarlet-red, double flowers (to 3.5" across). Blooms late spring to frost. Slight fragrance. Dark green foliage.

How to Care for the Plant

Water
Try watering a few mornings a week - water slowly at the base of the plant, until the soil is wet 12 to 18" deep. Soaker hoses are helpful and prevent water from splashing onto foliage.
Pruning
You can also trim back the yellow leaves for a cleaner look.
Fertilizer
Nitrogen, the first number on a bag of fertilizer, is the key nutrient for established roses. Using a higher rate of nitrogen and lower amounts of phosphorus and potassium are best. Examples of fertilizers to use are 27-3-3 or 25-5-5.

Sunlight
Most rose bushes need at least six to eight hours of sunlight each day to bloom and perform well. In shaded areas, roses tend to bloom less than roses in sunny sites, and they tend to become tall and spindly.
