Cerastium alpinum var. lanatum. A very slow-growing alpine plant, forming a low carpet or cushion of fuzzy silver-grey leaves. Short stems of starry white flowers appear in late spring and early summer. Best grown in the rock garden, in a gravel scree or alpine trough garden. It is grown as a rock garden subject for its many small white flowers and silver haired stems and foliage. There are three subspecies.
