Dictamnus albus, commonly called dittany, is an upright, clump-forming, woody-based, herbaceous perennial which features rigid, vertical stems typically growing 2-4' tall. Stems are topped by terminal racemes of fragrant, 5-petaled, white or pink flowers (1" long) in late spring to early summer.

How to Care for the Plant

Water

Water deeply and regularly.

Pruning

To remove a spent bloom, use a sharp, sterilized blade and cut the bloom stalk. Make a clean cut as close to the remaining plant as possible without harming it. Once you've removed the bloom, you can toss it in the trash or compost.

Fertilizer

Fertilize this shrub with compost in spring. Otherwise, it does not need additional feeding if the soil is healthy.

It cannot grow in the shade.

Soil

Suitable for: light (sandy) and medium (loamy) soils and prefers well-drained soil. Suitable pH: acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils.

Temperature

Ideal temp. 23°C for 6-8 weeks then cold stratify. Move to 4°C for 6-8 weeks. Remove to warmth for germination, slowly raising the temp. to 10°C.
