An elegant large shrub, to small tree, with weeping branches bearing slender bright green stems. Fragrant yellow flowers, cover the tree in summer.
It is not necessary to fertilize, although of course you can do it in spring and summer with organic fertilizers, such as guano or horse manure.
Grow in poor to moderately fertile, light, well-drained soil in sun. Will survive temperatures down to -5C (20F). Protect from frost and cold, drying winds.
If you buy a broom, you should consider that this plant is unfortunately a poison - all Genista varieties contain alkaloids, therefore if you cut the broom, you should not do this without wearing gloves. Deciduous thorny shrub of 2m tall with yellow clustered flowers. Small hairy leaves. It prefers stony, fresh soils with lime. It is found on sandstone soils, in garrigues and oak groves.
