Goodenia hederacea is a prostrate or ascending, perennial herb with stems up to 80 cm (31 in) long. The leaves are linear to elliptic or round, 10β120 mm (0.39β4.72 in) long and 3β25 mm (0.12β0.98 in) wide on a petiole up to 40 mm (1.6 in) long. The flowers are arranged in racemes up to 80 cm (31 in) long on a pedicel up to 50 mm (2.0 in) long with linear bracteoles 3β5 mm (0.12β0.20 in) long. The sepals are linear to lance-shaped, 3β5 mm (0.12β0.20 in) long, the corolla 8β15 mm (0.31β0.59 in) long with cottony hairs on the back. The lower lobes of the corolla are 3.5β7 mm (0.14β0.28 in) long with wings up to 2 mm (0.079 in) wide. The fruit is an oval capsule 5β9 mm (0.20β0.35 in) long.
tβs just important to water it occasionally, hand-weed around the plant when needed and use a light layer of mulch to prevent weeds.
Both cuttings and divisions should be grown in a relatively light soil mix; to give better water and air flow and stop any rotting from occurring.
Although Goodenia hederacea can grow in most soils, moist well-drained soils are preferable. It can grow in heavy shade or full sun. Flowering occurs in spring and summer; and fruiting time is in autumn.
Continue to water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Hard prune after flowering to keep it dense and flowery. Feed with a slow release native fertiliser during spring.
Will require water over long dry periods. Lower Temperatures: Temperatures as low as -7Β°C once established for short periods, will be prone to frost damage on leaves. Best planted in protected areas. Upper Temperatures: Temperatures to the Low 40'sΒ°C for short periods over the summer months.
Uses include banks, retaining walls, ground covering and container planting for patios and courtyards.
