An annual or biennial herb, a species of the genus Veronica of the Plantaginaceae family; grows in the steppes, on fine earthy and gravelly slopes; in the mountains up to 1200 m above sea level.

Stems 8-15 (up to 20) cm in height, erect or outstretched, simple or branched, mostly with several lateral shoots at the base.

The lower leaves are petiolate, ovate or rounded-ovate, dentate or incised-crenate. The middle leaves are round-ovate, sessile, 3-5-finger-dissected almost to the base or divided into obtuse linear lobes, of which the middle one is larger. The apical ones are sessile, tripartite, gradually turning into trilobate or whole bracts with obtuse, lanceolate to linear lobes. All leaves are sparsely glandular, 1 cm long.

How to get rid of: Use the gel (Roundup Gel) or ready-to-use spray (e.g Roundup Fast Action Ready-to-Use, SBM Job done General Purpose Weedkiller, Doff Glyphosate Weedkiller Ready-to-Use) on patches of speedwell. Leave the weed for three to four weeks for the weedkiller to take effect, before removing dead foliage.
