Seeds The fruit is a scarious weevil. Size - 4 mm long, 1.5 - 1.75 mm wide, 0.7 - 1 mm thick. The mass of 1000 caryopses is 3.5 - 4 g.

The maximum fertility is 50 - 100 caryopses in one ear. Germination depth - 10 - 13 cm. There is no dormant period.

It infests mainly flax, for which it is a specialized weed, and also spreads with flax seeds, from which it is difficult to separate. It also occurs in spring crops. The flax chaff is widespread mainly in the woodlands where flax is grown.
