Aphloia theiformis is a very variable evergreen shrub or, more generally, a slender, evergreen tree with drooping branchlets growing up to 20 m tall. The bole, which is of medium length, can be straight or crooked.The tree is harvested locally for use as a tea, medicine and source of wood.
