What is the plant

The attractive Celosia plant from the Amaranth family goes by the common names of woolflowers, cockscomb flower and “Flamingo Feather.”The unusual looking annual flowers can bloom for up to ten weeks, with Celosia flower heads of red, purple, gold, pink or sometimes bi-colored flower colors.The name ‘Celosia’, actually means ‘burning’ in Greek, and when blooming in large numbers the Celosia argentea plumosa type blooms together, resemble an ornamental grass of fire.

How to Care for the Plant

Water
Although drought-tolerant, water your cockscomb flowers regularly. Working in a 3-inch layer of organic mulch can help control weeds and keep the soil moist.
Pruning
Pinching is recommended to increase branching (the number of stems and flowers produced) and uniform flower size. When the plants are 8-12 inches tall, pinch the stem with your thumb and index finger or use sterilized scissors to remove the growing point. Clip off dead, damaged or unsightly growth as needed to maintain an attractive appearance. The flowers are long-lasting and remain on the plants for weeks, so deadheading is rarely needed.
