This small herbaceous plant belongs to the Piperaceae family. It is native to South America, where it grows as a groundcover. Watermelon Peperomia is also found in India and Southeast Asia.

Watermelon Peperomia is a little plant with a distinctive leaf color resembling a watermelon. The plant grows to a maximum height of 5 in (12 cm). Its leaves are leathery, smooth, ovoid, and fleshy. They are quite big for a small-size plant, reaching a length of 2-3 in (5-8 cm). Watermelon Peperomias have crimson stems.
