Philodendron “Fat Boy” also known as Philodendron Martianum. This chubby looking plant was named after Karl Frederich Von Martius, a great Austrian botanist who worked in Brazil. This beautiful plant is native to the tropics of Brazil and it resembles an orchid at first sight because of its shiny leaves and inflated petiole. It likes moist organic soils, but can be planted on trees in humid areas, as long as you keep it away from the direct sun light. This is a great indoor, patio or shade plant and looks amazing when it reaches its full height of well over half a metre
Philodendrons need a moderate amount of soil moisture. before watering a philodendron, you should check the top inch of soil to make sure it is dry. it is important to let the soil dry out in between waterings. water the plant once a week unless the soil is still saturated.
When it comes to fertilizers, you want to avoid over-fertilizing (just like an overdose of vitamins isn't great for us, either). Less is more, so it’s important to follow what the package says for application amounts.
Their temperature range is variable, but no philodendron likes going below about 55 degrees Fahrenheit for long.
Increase pot size by 2.5-5 cm (1 to 2 inches) in diameter for plants that are growing in pots 25.4 cm (10 inches) in diameter or less. For larger plants, those growing in pots greater than 10 inches in diameter, increase the pot size by 5 or 7.62 cm (2 or 3 inches) in diameter.
