Pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata Duchesne, family Cucurbitaceae) is a vine like flowering plant originally from Central America and Northern South America. It is a monoecious, climbing, annual plant with alternate and simple leaves and bright yellow to orangey yellow flowers. Though it is a fruit, it is treated as vegetables. It is widely grown for its edible fruit named pumpkin. The fruit has smooth, hard skin usually with cream spots and bright orange flesh but sometimes greenish with many seeds.
