How to Care for the Plant
Water
Your False Nettle will appreciate a sip every 9 days. But, as with most plants, the key is balance. Adapt your watering routine based on their specific needs. To put it in more tangible terms, it's about 0.8 cups. Ensure the soil gets a good drink without going overboard.
Pruning
Trimming isn't a big deal for False Nettle indoors. But if you want your greenie to sport a bushier look, the occasional trim can encourage that.
Fertilizer
Feed your Nettle about twice a year. A fertilizer rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium would be ideal. We recommend sticking to a ratio of 10-10-10.
Sunlight
False Nettle thrives when placed less than 1 foot (30 cm) from a sunny south-facing window. They crave the light, so don't stash them in a dark corner. This plant doesn't do well in low-light conditions. Make sure they get their daily dose of sunshine.
Soil
Pick a well-draining potting mix with enough nutrients to sustain your False Nettle. Most potting soils come loaded with the nutrients these plants need.
Propagation
You can expand your indoor False Nettle family with ease. They're quite receptive to propagation from cuttings, and you can even root them in water.
Temperature
False Nettle is a versatile indoor companion, comfortable in the average room temperature of 18-24°C (65-75°F). They can tolerate a slight fluctuation here and there but temperature extremes should be avoided at all costs.
Container
When you pot False Nettle indoors, choose a container that's at least 5.0 inches (12.7 cm) in diameter. Give those roots some room to stretch.
Fun fact
Boehmeria is used for feeding larvae of butterflies and moth larvae. They love this tasty stuff!
