I’m more of a animal guy than plant guy. My bet is many various bugs like flys, ants,(possibly),moths, and caterpillars. I’m not sure how to prevent it though. I’ll follow up with an update on how to prevent it.
(A follow up) Add a teaspoon of dish soap. Mix the contents thoroughly and spray on both sides of your vegetable plants, not on the vegetable itself. Spraying around the perimeter of your garden will also help keep bugs from entering your pot.
You could try using bug spray
I usually keep my basil inside Edit: I wouldn’t though.
The main basil pests are Japanese beetles, slugs, and aphids. Japanese beetles typically appear for a month during the summer and feed on the foliage, leaving only the larger veins intact. The quickest and most natural method for removing spider mites from basil plants is to spray the plant with a strong stream of water, making sure to target the undersides of the leaves. For container-grown plants, place them in the shower or use the kitchen sink spray attachment to dislodge the mites from the leaves.
