Scientific Name: Tulipa.Family: Liliaceae (Lily family).Origins: Central Asia, notably the Tian Shan mountains, later cultivated extensively in Turkey and the Netherlands. They possess two to six fleshy, blue-green leaves (up to 12 in some species) and flowers with six tepals. They bloom in almost every color except true blue Plant bulbs in fall, 4 to 8 inches deep, allowing them to root before winter. They thrive in full sun and well-draining soil to prevent bulb rot Primarily early to mid-spring (April and May). Typically 2–6 leaves (some species up to 12) that are cauline, strap-shaped, and alternate, often with a waxy coating. Plant bulbs in the fall (4-8 inches deep) in well-drained soil. Prefer full sun to partial shade. Require well-drained soil, as bulbs will rot in overly moist conditions. They are considered short-lived perennials in many gardens, often treated as annuals for the best display. Excellent in pots, garden borders, or rock gardens.
