Vriesea, or flaming sword, is a striking plant from the bromeliad family. Like many bromeliads, it blooms only once in its lifetime. After flowering, the main plant slowly begins to die. But before it fades, it produces “pups” — small shoots growing at the base. These should be separated only when they are large enough and have their own roots. Once replanted, each pup will grow, bloom once, and continue the cycle. That’s the life of a Vriesea: one flower, a slow goodbye, and new life through its children.
Your Vriesea is now in its final stage — the main plant is fading, but it’s already growing pups to carry on the cycle.
Even if your Vriesea is slowly dying after blooming, don’t stop caring for it. It still needs strength to grow healthy pups. Keep watering and supporting it just like before — the next generation depends on it.
