Leaves: Large (up to 12 inches long), oblong, and incredibly soft or "woolly" to the touch. They resemble felt or flannel, earning it nicknames like "flannel leaf". Stem: Present only in the second year, the central stalk is stout, unbranched, and densely covered in small leaves that taper downward to the stem, giving it a "winged" appearance. Flowers: Bloom from summer to early fall. The bright yellow, five-lobed flowers grow in a tight spiral on the upper portion of the stalk and open randomly.
