i believe it was cold shock. i've been using hot showers and started trimming. should i trim more and will the leaves frow back?

An occasional lukewarm shower is good but not hot water. That would shock it more. If it was in shock from getting too cold moving it to a warmer location would help. Lots of air circulation. Was it outside and you brought it inside for the winter months maybe? If so it will take a few weeks to acclimate. It’s still alive so there’s hope.
It looks like the leaves that are left are healthy. What kind of plant is it?
