Hakea laurina is an upright shrub or small tree with smooth grey bark, 2.5â6.0 m (8 ft 2 inâ19 ft 8 in) high, 3â5 m (9.8â16.4 ft) wide and does not form a lignotuber. The inflorescence consists of 120-190 conspicuous white, deep pink or red pin cushion shaped flowers in the leaf axils. The pedicels are 5.5â9.5 mm (0.22â0.37 in) long and smooth.
Greatest danger for these shrubs is excess moisture; they lose leaves if there is excess watering. Let the soil dry completely, then thoroughly wet it.
As the hakea laurina growth rate is quite quick, you can be quite rigorous. Cut back at least10 to 15 cm from tip growth when pruning. When it comes to the hakea laurina dwarf variety, you'll want to prune only 8 to 10 cm from tip growth.
Hakea laurina is tolerant of heavy frost and high winds, it appreciates a light prune after flowering.
