Myriophyllum heterophyllum is also known in English as either the twoleaf watermilfoil or broadleaf watermilfoil. It is a popular plant to in Aquariums or Garden-ponds. The species is often misidentified or overlooked due to issues in predictions of infestations and dispersal. It is often mistaken as the M. verticillatum in Europe or the M. hippuroides, M. laxum or M. pinnatum in North America due to their similar vegetation.
Aquatic plants do best with 10 to 12 hours of light per day. Leaving the light on longer will not compensate for weak lighting. It’s also important to create a consistent day/night cycle.
Aquatic plants use nitrogen and phosphorous as well as potassium, iron, magnesium, manganese and other minerals to grow. Most of the nitrogen and phosphorus comes from fish food and waste, however, minerals must be added to the aquarium on a regular basis.
Most aquarium plants do best at a pH between 6.5 and 7.8, general hardness of 50 ppm to 100 ppm and alkalinity between 3° and 8° dKH (54ppm – 140 ppm).
