Ah, a tropical plant to fit the most refined tastes! The beautiful veined leaves and unique flowers make this greenie a perfect match for any artistic mind searching for a plant companion.
This flowering plant comes from the tropical climates of Southeast Asia. It is also widespread in Australia and New Zealand. This succulent epiphyte will be a lovely sight trailing indoors and outdoors.
During warmer seasons, a watering every week is a must, however, always be careful not to overwater your plant! Hoya is very delicate. In the colder seasons, cut back on watering, and give your greenie a sip once every two weeks.
Hoya callistophylla thrives in bright, indirect sunlight. An east- or a north-facing window would be great.
A nitrogen/phosphorus rich, liquid fertilizer can be a welcome addition to your plant's life journey. Don't get too excited though! Be careful not to cause nutrient burn.
Hoya thrives in well-draining, slightly acidic soil (6.3 to 7.5 pH). A perfect mix should contain perlite and peat moss.
Use clean pruning tools to give your greenie a little haircut. Any vines that look unorderly can be disposed of without feeling too guilty about it.
During the warm season, Hoya can be propagated through stem cuttings, leaf cuttings, and air layering. The cuttings method is your best bet. Simply choose 3-4 nodes, place them with the leaves above the water and the naked parts below, and wait until the rooting.
A temperature range of 65 °F and 80 °F (18 °C to 27 °C) is the most comfortable for this greenie.
This Hoya prefers to be root-bound, so the pot cannot be too big. Plastic containers make for good options.
